The PAC flag flew one more time this weekend for a day of mountain bike racing. Ryan Martin, Steve Agent, Kenny Capps, Michael Watts, Andrew McKinney, David Rose and David Hack all participated in the event.
While I like to make things colorful, I'll just stick to the facts for today since I am pretty dang tired after that day of racing.
6 of 7 racer reached the podium for this race! David Rose: 1st place Jr 15-16 years Ryan Martin: 2nd place 19-29 beginner class David Hack: 2nd place 29-39 beginner class Steve Agent: 1st place 50+ beginner class Andrew Mckinney: 1st place 19-29 sport class Michael Watts: 2nd place 39-49 sport class Kenny broke a chain or killed a bear. Reports are varied but he did compete in 49-59 sports class. Not sure of his finish because of major glitches on the final times. updates to follow for Kenny.
JR and beginner's distances were 14 hard miles of MTB riding with plenty of climbing to make things fun (even though the flyer only said the JR racers had to do 7).
Sports class did a harsh 25 miles while expert and pro racers did 37.
Andrew McKinney is already talking of moving up to Expert Class for 2007. Ryan is talking Clydesdale class (over 200lbs) which races the same distance as sport.
I'll be considering sports class for 2008. Steve had a great time racing and might be talking into sports class at White Lighting for 2008. Kenny just rides until someone says "stop".
To put things in perspective, there were 178 racers at this event so it was one of the larger races in the area. There were PRO racers at this event with cash payouts for Pro, Expert and Sports Class. Cash payouts were for top 3 finishers in those categories.
Nice SWAG and trophies were handed out to Beginner class.

after talking to Kenny, he might have gotten 3rd in Sports class. I hope Wood N Wave has the results soon.

Having the mess up with the results really sucked, but it was still a good race. Everyone had a good time and no one got hurt, that I am aware of.
PAC had a strong showing at the event and with the aid of our motivational rider, Steve Agent, I think we can keep up the good work. lol

yeah...Steve was feeling good about his race until it came to the 50+ presentation and Steve Wilson went on about 10-15 minutes about how we ALL can still accomplish goals no matter what our age.
Thanks to Scott Tapp for helping with the race, the guys at Wood N Wave for hosting it and Alan Brown for helping with the timing. I'm sure they will get the bugs worked out on the program soon enough.
Many of you don't know that a crew of guys were working basically all day saturday clearing the North/South Trail of trees. I'm sure there were probably still some on the sport and expert sections but the workers really deserve a great hand and thanks for everything they did to clear the trail after the storm last week.
I thought I was tired after the race, I bet those guys were exhausted.

I'm just now seeing all these results. Congratulations you guys! Besides having some great races and making an impressive showing for PAC, it sounds like you had a great time.
And what an age range for the team!! Did all these riders ride for PAC?
(Do they have a women's 50+beginner class)?

all but Kent but he showed up to the night ride last week and knows Kenny so I bet we can talk him into it.
Yep on the women's side. These races usually have a bunch of guys but girl power is represented.
The YOUNGEST competitor was two years old! He was on training wheels but still raced.

Yep. there was one girl who just about broke the 2 hr mark on the sports class. 95% guys did not make that!! Not saying women are not fast, but not many around these parts can turn such a fast time. I believe this lady is the fastest woman I have ever seen race.
Wendy and her friend Jan Richey pre-rode or let's say pre-walked the course and said "no way" to the first timers class. The KY lake side is pretty brutal for anyone who only gets on a MTB bike once in a blue moon. I begged for them to allow the first timer's to ride the Barkley side but it fell on deaf ears. First timers is just that! Someone who has never raced before and wanted to see what all the fuss is about. I just did not see any since in making the course where no one would enjoy trying a hand at racing, not just for Wendy but all first timers.
Who's Kent S?? and welcome to the tribe dude!
I'm not sure who knows but Andrew Mc - was supposed to go to the College Nationals this weekend but I think that trip has hit a snag. I hope things will work out for him. He's having a great season and has put a lot of work and training into it.

Kent rode with Kenny back in the day. He's a smooth rider. Rides an old Trek 8000 HT. He's in very good shape and has been doing a lot of road and MTB riding lately. He lives in Nebo and I also think his Nephew raced 1st timer for Race to the Canal loop.

Hey, I forgot we actually had another Hopkins County girl in the race. Hailey Kercheval !! She ran the beginners class and finished with a time of 1:43:51.. for 1st place. Not bad for one of her first races. Hailey is a student at Murray St with Andrew and lives close to mine and Troy's neck of the woods, Jewel City. I work with her dad at GE. Super people!!!! Here's the link to the race results www.woodnwave.com/Race%20to%20the%20Canal/RaceResultsAll.html

That's right. Super nice and seemed to fit in with our group. She's probably more mature than most of us!
She was wearing a Wood N Wave Jersey and riding a HT MTB?
Wasn't that bike also borrowed?

Her nack is Adventure racing. and that is Andrews first MTB bike. I'm not sure if she bought it or borrowed it. She came out smiling and saying what fun that was. I'm not sure if I've ever said I had fun at a race immediately after-wards. It usually takes me a day or two to get over the pain.
