i was degreesing my drive train with clean streaks degreeser that comesi in a aerosal can and when i was done and was wiping off the bike where some had sprayed on (speceficly the rear rim..) as i was wiping that off the color on the decal came right off with it.. so i colored it back in with a black sharpie (i knew thats what they made those things for) and now its not even noticeable.. but what in the degresser could have caused that to happen.. i looked at the ingreduants on the can and it is essentual lighter fluid..
from degreeser can>>"contains petroleum distillates, heptane, propane, and isobutane propellents"
from lighter fluid can>> "contains petrolium dissoliates, napatha, heptane, and trace amounts of propane"
so if anyone smokes.. dont do so while ur cleaning you chain!

I use degreaser at work on my machine and i get overspray on the painted framework and when i whipe it off it takes some fof the paint along with it every time. also i oversprayed on some plexiglass and it basically ate through it comepletely. It's some powerful stuff.

That's a good topic David. I also learned the hard way. After ruining a couple of good chains I finally figured out that you're supposed to use a citrus based cleaner for getting heavy goo off of your rod!! Added bonus here is citrus base cleaners are more E-viro friendly.
