but which brand of potted meat? Serious cyclist would die if they consumed potted meat, but as I am not a serious cyclist it works great for me. My diet is based on 6 pack food groups and having a good time. Low fat, high carbs, energy drinks you'll ride like the wind. Beer, potted meat, spam and the foods I consume cause the wind!

I am definitely not serious, but pasta and new potatoEs are my choice. I put about anything on pasta that taste good. Also, most importantly, try to eat at least two hours before a hard ride, then eat as soon as possible after the ride so your body will absorb the fuel. Your "glycogen window" will start to taper-off about one hour after a ride, thereafter your body will slow it's absorption rate. Eating soon after will essentially help repair and replinish the "damage" of riding.
This is a must if you ride twice in one day, and I hope this will be my "strategy" at RAGBRAI.
Having said that I have known folks to drop others after beer and pizza!!!
