Dear David,
Thank you so much for taking a moment of your valuable time by reading this email. A lot of you may or may not know my personal history of dealing with cancer. This disease has affected my family in numerous ways. My father is a 13 year survivor as well as my mother-in law having survived her own battle most recently and also having a father-in-law who lost the battle three years ago.
I would now like to give back by fundraising for what I know to be a worthy cause and pay tribute to my survivor family members as my personal heros! Congratulations in your battle!
As some of you may know, I am participating in the LIVESTRONG Challenge in Austin, Texas on October 14 to benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
At age 25, Lance Armstrong was one of the world's best cyclists. He proved it by winning the World Championships, the Tour Du Pont and multiple Tour de France stages. Lance Armstrong seemed invincible and his future was bright. Then they told him he had cancer.
A combination of physical conditioning, a strong support system and competitive spirit took over. He declared himself not a cancer victim but a cancer survivor. He took an active role in educating himself about his disease and the treatment. Armed with knowledge and confidence in medicine, he underwent aggressive treatment and beat the disease.
Lance Armstrong's victories in the 1999-2005 Tours de France are awe-inspiring, but the battle against cancer has just begun - not just for him, but for all cancer survivors and people just like him who think cancer could not affect them. Now Lance is taking the lead in uniting his army to make cancer a national priority.
Today, there are more than 10 million people living with cancer in United States, and it is estimated that close to 1.3 million more will be diagnosed this year alone.
Although there is no cure, progress has been made. It is important to continue progress toward beating this disease. It is time that we make a commitment to close the gap between what we know and what we do.
My goal is not just to participate in the LIVESTRONG Challenge, but to raise $10,000 to help further the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s mission of inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer.. To reach this goal, I need your help.
If you have been affected by cancer, or you care about this cause, please consider donating toward my fundraising goal. You can can donate online at austin08.livestrong.org/cwhitehurst08
Thank you in advance for your support. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Sincerely,
Cindy Whitehurst
