Barry A. and I have kinda been out of the loop so to speak at pennyrile for a good while, but last sunday we found some time to go check the trails out so we headed out with rake and me with my trusty AXE in hand we walked down the trail that we had roughed in and found where a new loop has sprung forth from it that incorporates whats left of the old trail that Barry, Kenny, Tim Crowel, and I reclaimed near the park campground. Over half of that trail was destroyed due to logging activity but its been salvaged by whoever roughed in the several miles of new trail. This all maybe common knowledge to everyone here but i havnt seen any threads about it and just wondered who did all the work. We like the trail a lot and it is layed out very well. someone put a lot of work into it. the trail generally follows a route that barry and i had scouted out before and we are really glad to see that someone picked up the ball on it and did the work. we cleared several several trees and limbs that had fallen onto the trail and after we had gotten back to the trailhead we were pretty tired so we decided to head home instead of scout back to loop 3 to see if any more trail had been put in. when left there were 2 trucks at the trailhead with hopkins county plates, and given how fresh the trail work seemed to be we figured it might have been whoever was doing the trailwork, so im guessing its PAC thats responsible?

Is this trail that you are talking about supposed to be a horse trail?

no. nothing in this area is SUPPOSED to be open to horse traffic although that doesnt mean horses wont destroy it. this trail has been raked and marked with bright green spray paint id say less than a month ago because walking along it the soil still looks very dark and the scent of the soil was strong still. its very well layed out and there has been quite a bit of bike traffic on it already also someone has put short metal crossings over several small streams along the trail. Has anyone been in touch with Kenny C? id venture to guess that he did some of this work. whoever did it used chainsaws along the way in places and looks like the underbrush may have been cut with a weedeater. id like to get out there with my chainsaw as soon as i can. im sure the winter ice storms and wind has turned it into a warzone on loop 3. as some might know, ive been rebuilding my house from the tornado 2 years ago next month. ive already moved in but im still spending most of my free time working on the endless list of projects to come. clearing trees off the trail the other day was a vacation for me. call me crazy but i get a lot more satisfaction out of working on the trails than i do actually riding them. im slow anyways so it works for me. ill do what i can to see pennyrile thrive and expand and im glad to see that other people are doing that too.
