I am looking for information on running. Does anyone have books or DVDs on this. I am looking for Evolution Running by Ken Mierke or the Pose Method By Dr.Nicholas Romanov. Or any other method like this. Or if anyone knows how to run like these methods and would be willing to show me how it works. Thank you. Cindy R.

I have never heard of these books, but you have sparked my interest. I run and the only tip I can give is Asics. By far the best running shoe ever.

By far the best running shoe ever. for cushioning and stability.. yes. but id have to argue that the mid-high level mizunos are a bit better, mainly because they are much lighter, and you dont sacrafice that much cushining for the reduced weight

Thank you for the shoe tips. These methods I think use a shoe that are very light and very little cushioning and stability. These methods are like running barefoot. This is what I found on the net www.evolutionrunning.com/philosophy.htm . Cindy

Cindy, if you ever figure the Pose method out let me in on the secret. I've been trying to master this for a couple of yr's now. I got my info out of a Runners World mag. I'll see if I still have it! One thing I do understand though, is you have to run leaning very forward. This is to give you a sensation of a controlled fall. They say it's very hard on the calves at first but will reduce your injuries over all. Another thing is to land and spring off of the balls of your foot as opposed to flat footed or your heels. Most people are heel strikers especially on down hills and after they tire . Landing on your heel puts all of the force straight up your leg into your ankle, shin, knee and even to your hip. This leads to injuries.
I have no idea as to where you are physically. I do know you are by far one of the toughest little ladies I ever meet. People can get away with over doing it on a bike but not with running!! Do Not increase your mileage by more than 10% every two wk's and every fourth wk take it easy do about 40% of what you had been doing to allow your body to heal. Also you can start out your program with a walk run walk run walk, increasing your run time while decreasing your walk time each time out. This will allow your body to toughen your joints up slowly, helping to reduce injuries.
On shoes, depending on your arch and stride. Wendy and I both have had good luck with Gillies bike shop in E,ville. They have a certified stride specialist there and can put you in the right shoe first time. Very important!! After you know what you have you can buy on line cheaper!! I do wear Asics myself and Wendy has had the best luck with them as well!!
Hope this helps some, Michael

Michael thank you for the tips. I am up to running 2 to 3 miles started 2 months ago. And riding with that if I can. The running is at Nortonville park. It is a hard way to start for the track they have is up and down allot and not very flat most of the time. But I like it. I would like to do more but, Finding time is the hardest for me. I ran allot when in the Army. That was awhile ago. And wanted to see how running for the fun of it would be like. I would like to learn more about running so I did a search and these methods sounded good. I may try and buy the DVD if no one has it. I like learning about that stuff anyway. Cindy

I've really been wanting to run a half marathon, is there any that are within reasonable driving distance?

It would be cool if a few of us from PACs picked out a ½ Marathon that we could train for. I wouldn’t mind doing something like that anyone else?
